Today you are in for a real treat.
We managed to arrange a video interview with one of most consistent traders in our Trading Cup history, Gustavo Correa.
Gustavo managed to win one of our monthly competitions in 2019, generating an incredible return of 319%, allowing him to qualify for the Grand Final. We interviewed Gustavo in last year’s Grand Final in Macau here.
In our Stage 2 qualifying round, Gustavo placed 4th with another impressive return of 179% for the month, helping him to qualify for the 2020 Grand Final.
Alistair Schultz, Chief Market Analyst at ACY Securities, had the opportunity to speak with Gustavo, delving deeper into what makes his mind tick and the strategies he employs to be such a consistent trader.
Click play on the video below for the full 17minute interview.
During this interview, Gustavo and Alistair run through the following key points:
· His current trading methods and how they have evolved over time
· Building Expert Advisors (EAs) and his interesting in implementing Machine Learning
· His background and how it synced perfectly with his current style of trading
· His exact trading setup & the importance of his powerful desktop PCs
· The critical factor around his VPS, low latency & importance of 24/7 uptime for his EAs
· Gustavo’s view on backtesting
· How he manages risk in real life versus a live real-money MT4 trading contest
· Role of luck in trading when entering trading competitions
· Plus much more
One of the critical parts of the interview above is Gustavo’s mindset around his Expert Advisors.
Originally, Gustavo was a discretionary trader who then learned more about algorithmic trading.
This synced in well with his background in physics, maths, programming and statistics.
Trading then took on an entirely different direction, enabling him to feel at home.
But one of the interesting parts of the interview is how he suggests that building Expert Advisor trading systems are not set and forget.
Instead, Gustavo is hands-on with all his EAs, modifying them and adjusting position sizes based on his discretion as the opportunities arise.
Gustavo suggests there is always a small amount of human intervention, which is vital to help him create the results he achieves month after month.
But you will also hear that his trading isn’t all one-way traffic to the top.
There are moments during the competition, which you’ll hear in the interview, where things turned aggressively against him.
But through a deep understanding of the markets he trades and intimate knowledge of his trading systems, he was able to bounce back to qualify for the Grand Final.
What will impress you most is Gustavo’s enthusiasm for the markets, his interest in learning new trading ideas, and to keep getting better.
Despite his incredibly consistent track record of past performance, Gustavo is now studying financial engineering.
Also, he is working hard towards applying Machine Learning to his current suite of Expert Advisors.
For many people, when you find your calling in life, the very thing that drives you to want more and more success, things fall into place nicely.
We look forward to seeing more top-of-the-leaderboard results from Gustavo.
And, we are excited to be able to provide you with this interview with such a high calibre trader.
Never has there been a better time to work on getting better at trading, with markets providing such incredible volatility.
